It’s interesting that a South-African jalapeno sauce would evoke the flavors Louisiana Bayou and one of the hot sauce world’s most renowned and time-tested brands, but the flavor profile of African Dreams’ Jalanasco-Fermented Jalapeno Sauce — in the best way — is a dead-ringer doppelgänger for Tabasco’s vastly underrated green jalapeño sauce. Same profile, but wonderfully consuming, and that’s surely owed to the fermentation of the peppers. Medium-high on the layman’s heat index, the senses come alive with this stuff, and it’s absolutely to die for on a breakfast burrito.
You’ll also note it’s not cheap. True, but that fermented flavor attack ensures that a little goes a long way, making it a still-solid value at this price point. And they contribute to wildlife conserveration.
Simple ingredients, but such a complex flavor! I think the fermentation adds a lot of depth and richness to this jalapeno sauce. It is delicious. It’s just a few ingredients – fermented jalapeno chilis, vinegar, salt, and xanthan gum as a thickener, but it tastes like there’s more to it, I think that is because of the fermentation. This has been great over breakfast hash of potato, onions, garlic, and peppers with an egg on top, and also on a taco salad. The only recommendation – get the big bottle! The small one won’t last long!
Very unique, mild sauce. The fermented part makes this sauce standout and gives it an insane complex flavor. Definitely my favorite tamale and pork taco topping sauce
I’ve tried several sauces from this brand and they have all been very good and unique. The Jalanasco-Fermented Jalapeno Sauce has limited ingredients of mostly the fermented jalapeno chili pepper. It has a familiar taste of a jalapeno based hot sauce mixed with vinegar. The jalapenos have been fermented and add an extra layer of flavor. It’s very delicious and good on foods that go with green sauces such as eggs, pork, and chicken.
I hate sauces that are too spicy so this is just the perfect amount of heat! It has the right amount of flavor with a tiny bit of spice and a ton of earth notes. The flavor is really unlike any other hot sauce I’ve had. It is very vinegary and unique. Amazing on chicken, tacos, salads, eggs, wraps. Can’t get enough of this stuff.
This is a delicious sauce that is super vinegary. But that’s something I really enjoy. The jalapeño flavor comes through very nicely and doesn’t overpower the experiance with heat. Because it has a lot of vinegar, it is very thin. If you are one of those hot sauce lovers who can’t wait to have your taste buds assaulted, then this is probably not for you. But if you’re a lover of hot sauce that is flavor first, then I recommend this animal loving company’s sauce.
The Jalanasco is a fermented sauce made from aged jalapeno peppers. It’s milder than I expected and is tasty on avocado toast.
The ingredients are few and very basic, but this beats a lot of hot sauces that have too many ingredients.
The flavor is out of this world! Seriously, it’s amazing. My husband says it’s so good, even just tasting it right out of the bottle. I made a shepherd’s pie for dinner last night and this sauce was amazing when added on top of the mashed potatoes. There’s the heat, but the flavor has a fruity profile which must be from the fermentation process. Yes, I can taste the jalapeno, but it’s different, more complex that straight-up jalapeno.
This one’s a winner, and it’s the kind of sauce that encourages you to make the kind of foods just so you can put the sauce on them. I’m having tacos later this week — we’ll see if the bottle makes it past the weekend.
This sauce is a vinegar based hot sauce like Tabasco or Louisiana, only it uses green jalapeño peppers rather than red peppers.
The sauce has a good flavor (if you like a vinegar base hot sauce), but the wide opening of the bottle makes it easy to apply too much, so be careful.
Overall it’s a good tasting vinegar based sauce, but it’s not as hot as I’d like it to be, and I’d prefer the bottle to have a drip style opening/applicator to insure you don’t drown your food in vinegar.
I’ve tried a bunch of offerings from this company, and all have been fantastic. Good value, packaged like a tank, excellent flavors, gives back to wildlife funds. It has such a depth of flavor and is the perfect hit of acid. 10/10 would recommend
This is the 3rd hot sauce I have tried from ADF. I love each one of them very much. Each one is unique and has very fresh, complex flavors.
This Fermented Japapeno is wonderfully spicy and a beautiful green color. It is listed as 3 out of 10 spiciness, but I would consider it at least a 5 or 6. It’s pretty spicy, but spicy good. Like the spicy and flavors you crave.
I have not been disappointed with any of the sauces I have tried from African Dream. I also like it that some of the proceeds goes towards wildlife preservation in Africa.
This is definitely a 5-star product.
The fermentation process allows the jalapeño in this sauce to develop into more complex, sophisticated and depth flavor. It is incredible. Paired against the tart, vinegary flavor, this sauce wakes up your taste buds and goes deliciously with a variety of cuisines. I used with on some African prime rib one night and used this with tacos anothert, and it was delicious with both. Yum!
Yet another excellent sauce from African Foods. This is the fourth variety I’ve tried and I have found myself enthusiastic about all of them with their unique flavor notes. In this case, the jalapeno peppers are center stage with a vinegary base. It is on the milder side. There is a noticeable kick but it dissipates rather rapidly and is not at the level that even those who avoid spicy condiments/sauces will find objectionable, if applied generously.
This fermented jalapeno sauce is delicious. It has a gentle heat & a very complex depth of flavor. This is great on so many foods – sandwiches, tacos, burritos, eggs, meat, chicken, etc. etc. We are already halfway through the bottle and it has only been 3 days. Definitely buying the bigger one next time!
This is an okay but not hugely exciting vinegar-based hot sauce with a fairly mild heat level. In the bottle it’s a green, moderately viscous liquid; it improves when shaken. The flavor is a very sour, vinegar-forward one with a bit of underlying fermented-funky taste, and a fairly mild heat level that builds up just a bit if you serve it generously (which you don’t really have a choice considering the bottle’s lack of a shaker top). I suspect the “-asco” in the name is meant to suggest a similarity to green Tabasco, but it has at least a bit more flavor underneath the vinegar than the big-company product. Still, green Tabasco has a fairly similar flavor profile to this, which is to say that it tastes mostly of vinegar and isn’t that exciting compared to its manufacturer’s other sauces, some of which are really good.
This sauce is very versatile because the flavor profile is more complex than your ordinary hot sauce. It’s notsuper hot but has a depth of flavor that means you can use it on a wide array of different foods and drinks. I decided to try it as an ingredient in a homemade Jalapeno Margarita and it was perfection. I love, love this sauce. I know most people will use this as a sauce for tacos but it’s use as a drink ingredient is equally fine. I will probably order more once I run out (which will be soon).
This is a good choice for those who like a strong vinegar taste in their sauce. It is not especially hot but the jalapeno chilis do provide flavor and heat.
I like the taste of vinegar so I really enjoy this sauce, especially on tomatoes. It is thin enough to be a salad dressing but really goes well on anything that one would normally put hot sauce on.
This is amazing!!! The best tasting ever! Never stop selling this product,I absolutely love it!
I’m a real sucker for a good green jalapeño hot sauce and this one truly hit the spot. It’s full of heat and a depth of flavor from the pepper itself and the processing. Because of the fermentation, there’s a tart/sour aspect to it that puts the whole thing over the top and makes it full of flavor. A good balance of vinegar finishes the whole experience off. It is watery, so use a soft hand when pouring it out and enjoy every last drop.
This is one of those novelty hot sauces.
It is a pretty small bottle for the price. The flavor is good but it doesn’t have a lot of heat. I would call it a milder hot sauce. It does have a strong vinegar flavor. I agree that it is mild and earthy. I like that it uses fermented jalapenos. If the bottling process didn’t kill off the bacteria, it might contain some nice probiotics.
The packaging is attractive, and I like the fact that the company donate to wildlife conservation and support local farmers and artists.
This is a quick and easy way to get a fresh, hot jalapeño flavor. I like it for cooking fish and chicken, but it’s also good for seasoning tacos or nachos — or any dish that calls for jalapeños and needs a little hit of heat and acid.
Honestly, when I first tried this sauce I wasn’t sold, it is really tangy! But then I tried it mixed in with some greek yogurt and my mind was blown!! Seriously, one of the best dips I have tasted!
If you don’t like vinegar or salt, you probably won’t like this. It’s super tangy, sour, vinegar taste, and moderately salty. I absolutely love vinegar AND salt, so I was delighted.
I eat hot sauce on everything, but I’ve never had a hot sauce like this before!
The fermented jalapeno pepper taste is unique and delish! It’s mild/medium spicy and very flavorful. I ate mine on some fish sticks and broccoli/spinach blintzes (hey, don’t judge!). It was the just the right spice level for a good kick, but not enough to obliterate the other tastes or cause pain.
This is a little bottle! As you can see from my picture, I used a lot of it on just one serving of food! It’s not going to be around long at my house. For the price, I’d probably be happier with a larger bottle/ more likely to buy again for myself.
The novelty of this is fun; it’s the kind of item I’d give as a hostess gift or small thank you gift.
Nicely packaged in a glass bottle, this Jalanasco Fermented Jalapeno sauce is a thin, runny consistency and is best poured directly onto my foods. Even though jalapenos are the first ingredient, I tasted a mild spiciness. There was a strong vinegar flavor and saltiness. I love the high quaity way that this sauce was made and the fact that it is preservative-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, halaal certified, canola-free, no added artificial colors and flavors. As per directions on the bottle, I shook the bottle well before using it. Then, once I opened this, I kept it refrigerated.
Overall this brand of jalapeno sauce works as advertised and it enhances anything I pour it on.
My wife and I can’t get enough of this stuff. This stuff is really unlike any other sauce. Just the right vinegar zip and a full body spicy taste that kind of comes in waves, but doesn’t ever bring the water works. Even our one year old likes the stuff, hah! 😀
